CHARLES LAWSON
Born in 1893 Ashington Northumberland.
Enlisted in 1912 employed as a miner.
Served most of the war on the Armed Merchant Cruiser H.M.S. Achilles, Charles was in action with this ship when it located the German commerce raider Leopard in 1917 along with HMS Dundee sank the German ship. Charles received a free discharge in 1920 and by 1939 was working as a motor mechanic and was the Deputy station Air Raid Precaution officer.
Medals come with copy service papers. 1939 census and navy despatch of the sinking of the German raider.

Born 1st January 1900, in Bloomsbury
Enlisted in July 1915 age 15 yeard old and was on HMS Princess Royal during the battle of Jutland then aged 16, this ship was hit 9 times by German shells. Alfred served in World War Two.

From Camberwell London, Born in 1886
Enlisted as a Boy in 1904 reaching the position of Leading Torpedo Operator in 1916. Served during World War One mainly on Submarine Depot ships and finally served on Submarine D4 in October 1918.

CHARLES MORRIS ROSSELL
J65158 ROYAL NAVY
From Holborn London, Born in 1889
Charles was a Merchant seaman who enlisted into the Royal Navy on 18th January 1917. After the end of the war he returned to the Merchant navy and continued at sea until discharged suffering with a Hernia in 1943. Charles service papers show he served on the motor vessel Llangibby Castle, whilst on board this ship a torpedo baldly damaged her on the night, 16th January 1942 (link to details) After full repairs, Llangibby Castle returned to service as a troopship, and took part in Operation Torch on 9 November 1942, during which she was hit by a shell from a shore battery.
